She died before I was even born but remembering how much Mrs Agu (my literature teacher in Primary 3) had to flog me in primary school to read ‘So Long A Letter’ made me understand why she won the first Noma Prize for Publishing in Africa in 1980 later on when I was ‘old’ enough to appreciate the masterful prose in letter form and also made me fall in love with literature and the arts even at a young age.
She did Senegal and Africa proud in the short time she was here. Just so miffed that I lost most of my ‘classic’ books while fleeing the North (will have to make do with an e-copy for now)
Who knows where i can get ‘So Long A Letter’ or can….(fill in the rest)
