We at The Bagus are proud to be associated with the Lagos International Poetry Festival which made its debut in 2015 against the backdrop of the growing popularity of performance poetry. Since then, the festival has had over 8,000 people in attendance and featured over 90 poets from across the world. Through its workshops, master classes, school visits, panel discussions, and performances, the festival has enjoyed massive media support and public following, establishing itself as not only the first international poetry festival in West Africa, but also as one of Africa’s major annual art and cultural highlights.
Lagos International Poetry Festival returns in 2018; from 31st of October to 4th of November, with the theme Wide Awake. This year’s festival will be an emphasis on the growing importance of vigilance in a
post-truth era. As a rousing wave of discontenting voices tip political and social power structures from the global North to the South, and reinvigorate conversations on accountability, transparency and social
justice, staying alive to the issues has become not only vital, but cool. The 2018 edition of the festival brings 35 poets, writers, artists, and thinkers from 18 cities across the world to 5 venues across
the city of Lagos.
