The American Academy of Arts and Sciences has elected 228 new National and International Scholars, Artists, Philanthropists, and Business Leaders.
The 237th class of members includes Nigerian writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and Wits University-based academic Achille Mbembe from Cameroun.
Also on the list are philanthropist and singer-songwriter John Legend, award-winning actress Carol Burnett, award-winning actor and activist Sir Ian McKellen, mathematician Maryam Mirzakhani, immunologist James P Allison.
